Melodic Metal aus dem Finnenländle rotiert nun seit ein paar Tagen in meinem Player. Bei der Scheibe handelt es sich um das dritte Werk der Band Celesty. Nun, nachdem die Band mit ihren früheren Alben hauptsächlich im asiatischen Raum und natürlich im metalverliebten Finnland abgeräumt hat, schickt man sich nun an, die restliche Welt zu erobern. Und was soll ich sagen, die Chancen dürften nicht schlecht stehen. Aber der Reihe nach.

„Lord Of Mortals“ legt direkt kraftvoll los. Heavy stampfender Rhythmus, bevor die Melodiemaschinerie angeworfen wird. Celesty verbinden harten Power Metal mit süßem Melodic Metal. Wer hier also das häufig angebotene kraftlose Verwursten von gelungenen Melodien erwartet, der muss sich schnell eines Besseren belehren lassen. Eine große Portion Härte ist permanent vorhanden.
„Unreality“ beginnt auch wieder mit harten Drums von Jere Luokkamäki und den messerscharfen Gitarren von Teemu Koskeli und Tapani Kangas. Sänger Antti Railio zeigt sein Repertoire von melodischen bis hin zu powervollen Parts. Und dem allen liegt ein Keyboardteppich zu Grunde, welcher von Juha Mäenpää absolut unaufdringlich gestaltet wird.

„Demon Inside“ besticht durch seine abwechslungsreichen unterschiedlichen Passagen, auch wenn ich teilweise den Eindruck habe, dass sich Antti Railio schon sehr bemühen muss, um das Werk so hinzubekommen, wie es hier gelungen ist. Ich bin gespannt, wie er den Song live umsetzen wird.
Der vierte Song hört auf den Namen „War Creation“ und beginnt mit einem akustischen Intro, bevor die E-Gitarren erklingen und gemeinsam mit Ari Katajamäki klar machen, dass wir uns hier im Hard & Heavy Bereich befinden. Der Refrain hätte für meine Begriffe aber etwas innovativer ausfallen können, da der Track ja auch sonst z. B. mit einem richtig guten Gitarrensolo ausgestattet ist. Live dürfte der Song schnell funktionieren, selbst wenn man ihn vorher nicht kannte. Aber der Refrain ist einfach zu eingängig.

Der nächste Song wird mit Klaviertönen eingeleitet, die aber auch relativ hart angeschlagen wurden. Wenn ich es nicht besser wüsste, würde ich fast behaupten, eine Thrash Metal Band versucht sich gekonnt im melodischen Gebiet. „Empty Room“ brilliert mit einer tollen Gesangslinie und einiges an Doublebassdrums.
„Among The Dreams“ zeigt die ganze Stärke von Celesty: akustische Parts und wunderschöne Gesangslinien, die mit einer tollen Leadgitarre gepaart wurden. Eine beeindruckende Ballade.

„Back In Time“ zeigt dann wieder, wo die Streitaxt hängt. Für eine Melodic Band präsentieren Celesty wirklich viel Power, was natürlich auch durch die kraftvolle Produktion hervorgehoben wird. „Arrival“ zeigt, wie schön modern sich Metal heutzutage anhören kann. Tja, auch wenn es jetzt vielleicht nicht ganz fair ist, weil es nicht hunderrtprozentig passt, aber wenn man die alten Helloween zu „Walls Of Jericho“ Zeiten mit den Helloween zu „Keeper Of The Seven Keys“ Zeiten kreuzen würde, käme etwas heraus, was zumindest ähnlich klingen würde. Dazu dann noch ein wenig hymnenartiger Gesang und schon passt das.

Leider ist dann schon der letzte Song „Last Sacrifice“ am Start. Ich muss zugeben, dass mir die Scheibe, umso häufiger ich sie höre, immer besser gefällt. Aber irgendwie fehlt mir dann doch noch der letzte kleine Kick.

Fazit: Ein tolles Werk, das mich wohl immer wieder begeistern wird, wenn ich die Scheibe in den Player schiebe. Aber ich bin mir momentan noch nicht so sicher, ob ich sie noch häufig einlegen werde. Kennt ihr das Gefühl, wenn ihr irgendetwas hört und total begeistert seid, aber dann legt ihr die Scheibe zur Seite und sie bleibt lange liegen. Irgendwann legt ihr sie wieder ein und seid entzückt, wie toll sie doch ist. Aber sobald sie wieder aus dem Player raus ist, fehlt trotzdem nicht so wirklich etwas. Das Problem ist wohl, dass die Qualität der Scheibe zwar hoch ist, aber zu gleich bleibend. Es sticht keiner der Songs stark hervor. Aber irgendwie brennt sich bei mir zumindest kein Song nach dem 10. Durchgang im Hirn fest.

Heavenly, Freedom Call, Sonata Arctica and Stratovarius were the bands I compared the Finnish band Celesty to when I reviewed their previous album called Legacy Of Hate. That was two years ago and they are now back with their third album called Mortal Mind Creation and it seems they have somehow have managed to make turn their music more into a style of their own. They have created a fine atmosphere with music that is one moment very powerful but melodic, the other moment they have a relaxing and slow approach of it all.

The band continues to follow the story they started on their debut, which makes the music from Celesty extra interesting. They take you on a great trip on their fantasy trip through the story they connected to their music. It only is a pity that these guys did not managed to write an album that would last a bit longer than only 45 minutes. Many bands come with a new album each year but these Fins had two years time to write an full album with a longer play time than they did now. But the time they use for their music is well filled in with powerful tunes. There has been a slight change since their last album, guitarist J-P Alanen took his bags and went to another fine Finnish band called Altaria. But that seems to be a common thing, Finnish bands trading musicians between them. You see that a lot. The best tunes in my opinion are the opener Lords Of (Metal???) Mortals, just listen to the great metallic riffs and the ultrasonic fast drums. What a song! Then there is the beautiful power ballad Among The Dreams with awesome piano sounds that remind you of a Savatage song.

This album is suitable for fans from Finnish melodic metal but people who love the eighties bay area thrash might give this one a listen too!

Celestyn kolmas kokopitkä Mortal Mind Creation esittelee hieman tyylisuuntaansa päivittäneen kotimaisen power metal -bändin. Uutuuslevyllä puhaltavat aikaisempaa kitaravetoisemmat tuulet ja muutenkin orkesterin edesottamukset ovat päivittyneet aikaisempaa raskaampaan suuntaan. Power metalin alle orkesterin edesottamukset putoavat vieläkin, mutta nyt biiseihin on kehitelty toinen toistaan nerokkaimpia kitarariffittelyjä, unohtamatta kuitenkaan orkesterille tunnistuksenomaisia kosketinmelodioita. Vokaalipuolella on edellistuotoksista tapahtunut myöskin selvää kehitystä, sillä viime levylle käytännössä suoraan studioon pestattu Antti Railio on saanut edesottamuksiinsa lisää särmikkyyttä.

Mortal Mind Creation on modernisoitua power-juhlaa kannesta kanteen, sillä biisimateriaalista ei etsimälläkään löydy täytebiisiä, vaan tuotos on musikaalisesti ja lyyrisesti hyvin tarkkaan mietitty teemallinen kokonaisuus. Albumilta voi astia myös progressiivisia elementtejä, mutta vain mausteina, sillä minkäänlaisella turhalla outoudella tai soitinpornoilulla hommaa ei tarkoituksenmukaisesti pilata, sillä soittajat tyytyvät soittamaan vain juuri sen mitä toimiva lopputulos vaatii. Kitaroiden vallan kasvaessa kokonaisuudessa ovat koskettimet hieman menettäneet valtaansa soundimaailmassa, mutta tämä on vain tehnyt hyvää orkesterin omaperäisyyden tavoittelulle.

Celestyn yksi tavaramerkki, nerokkaat melodiat, ovat edelleen havaittavissa ja tuovat hyvässä määrin tunnelmaa materiaaliin. Mortal Mind Creation on selvästi Celestyn aggressiivisin julkaisu, mutta samalla mukaansatempaavin. Celestyllä on ollut nyt ensimmäistä kertaa ulkopuolinen tuottaja mukanaan ja on vaikeaa sanoa kuinka paljon se näkyy uutuuslevyllä, mutta kokonaisuutena Mortal Mind Creation on yksi kunnianhimoisimmista kotimaisista power metal -teemalevyistä ikinä. Siltinkin uskon levyn aukeavan niillekin kuuntelijoille, jotka yleensä kääntävät selkänsä power-bändeille.

Etelä-Pohjanmaalta kajauttava Celesty jatkaa kolmannella täyspitkällään Mortal Mind Creation edellisiltä tuotoksiltaan tutulla linjalla eli eeppisen power metalin parissa. Kyse ei ole kuitenkaan pelkistä tuplabasarikompeista, tilusooloista, korkeuksiin kohoavista lauluosuuksista ja mahtipontisista syntikoista, sillä genrensä perinteisimpiin edustajiin verrattuna Celesty antaa yllättävän paljon tilaa myös raskaille riffeille ja yleisesti aggressiiviselle ja tummalle jyräämiselle.

Levyn alkupuoli ei oikein vakuuta, vaikkei avausraita Lord of Mortals missään nimessä huono olekaan. Nopeapotkuinen ja vahvoja kitaraosuuksia tarjoava biisi ei vain säväytä etenkään kertsiltään. Varsin nopea on myös kakkosraita Unreality, joka iskee huomattavasti avausta rankemmin mutta ei vielä räjäytä pottia. Sen sijaan nopeiden ja rauhallisten osuuksien välillä taiteileva Demon Inside edustaa Celestyn monipuolisempaa puolta ja toimii jo hienosti.

War Creations on jälleen aika keskinkertainen siivu, kun taas hienoilla syntikkakuvioilla väritetty Empty Rooms edustaa bändiä parhaimmillaan. Vaikka tunnelma on pohjimmiltaan surullinen, komeasti power-henkeä uhkuva kertosäe valaa uskoa jaksaa eteenpäin. Myös loput raidat ovat komeaa kuultavaa. Among the Dreams -balladi rikkoo mukavasti levyn muuten raskasta yleislinjaa, ja Back in Timessa piisaa tarpeeksi vauhtia ja voimaa. Arrival vakuuttaa puolestaan fantasianomaisuudellaan ja sankarillisella soitannollaan. Vähän uutta tuo peliin vielä päätöspala Last Sacrifice, joka edustaa perinteisempää suoraviivaista metallia ja jättää levystä varsin miellyttävän jälkimaun.

Aivan napakymppiin Celesty ei Mortal Mind Creationilla osu, sillä paikoittain melodiat tahtovat hukkua turhan nopeiden komppien sekaan. Paketti pysyy kuitenkin hyvin kasassa ja paranee kummasti loppua kohti. Monipuoliset sävellykset ja Antti Railion komea lauluääni takaavat kuitenkin, että kyseessä yksi vuoden parhaista kotimaisista power metal -levyistä.

After two years and some additional changes in their line-up Celesty is back to continue their fantastic opus narrated in power-metal. Mortal Mind Creation is the third album released by the Finnish combo and just like the previous releases Celesty delivers another concept album, another sequel to their saga.
I was curious about the new line-up and how it influenced the sound of Celesty. I was surprised by seeing how much the band grew since their last release. The sound became quite a bit darker due the now lower tuned lead guitar and the more moderated vocals. As well the whole performance seems to be more progressive, showing that Celesty isnt just copying those names they are compared to.
Every time when my speakers are vibrating of ones of those astounding solos it makes me thinking: Hell, when did Helloween teamed up with Dream Theatre.
Celesty who are trying to conquer Europe with Mortal Mind Creation, like they conquered Japan and their home country with the previous releases, might have a chance to succeed with this goal. Mortal Mind Creation fulfils nearly every condition for a high class power-metal album. There is just one flaw that fails perfection.

Lord of Mortals is the first song, showing us what these guys are able to. Fast, melodic and with a good portion of progressive elements they present a solid opener. But sometimes the vigilant listener would stumble over the flaw I mentioned before. From time to time you would notice that the vocals are sometimes too thin to support the bombastic hymns.
But the flaw is fading by listening one of songs by another.
The band is simply harmonizing at its best in songs like Demon Inside which is for me the strongest art piece on this album, and the powerful hymn Empty Room where the thin voice is cleared and forgotten by listening its monumental melody.
Celesty! Onwards to Europe, to conquer their ears with the force of Mortal Mind Creation. Polish your instruments and fight the flaws, so victory will be assured!

Celesty will rise to the top with the sound of this new album. My favorites are Arrival and Lord of mortals which give the double bass drumming to the extreme. The slower songs are not my favorite.

This album is totally 10+++ album i recommend to everyone.

The new CELESTY album is the kind of Epic Melodic Metal - the description does not really fullfill the sound of CELESTY - not following the roots of nameless clones of Gammaween and Helloray...

Sure there are bombastic sounds, there is lots of Doublebass, elements we all know from countless Melodic Power.. Speed..blabla named..Metal releases, but....what makes the new album MORTAL MIND CREATION so very interesting for me is simply the art of songwriting.
First of all very melodic and with lots of power, and speed ( ARRIVAL), but also with a certain groove and goddamn good hooklines. Its not that simple Verse, Bridge, Chorus, Solo, Verse-scheme, no, each song has its special touch. Some are really complex with progressive elements also, but not overloaded like it is some times in the Progressive Metal genre, if you know what I mean.
I hate to compare former albums with a new one, because every record is to me a momentarly snapshot where the artist(s) are in their musically development standing. But MORTAL MIND CREATION is a very positive step forward, both in music and productionwise.
Even (or should I better say logical) it is a concept album, another sequel to REIGN OF ELEMENTS and LEGACY OF HATE, its not an absolutely must to have the older releases to understand
the story. In difference to the R.O.E. and L.O.H. the songs do not count on names and places like they did on the other two albums before. Its more open and leaves the listener more own fantasy.
Another for me very important point is, that CELESTY have created (from the beginning) a fantasy world far from genre-wise conventional concepts of dragons, knights a.s.o.
Everythings possible, main characters die (Legacy of hate), the supposed good guy turns to be bad. And even the world changes. And that makes me very curious about the future upcoming releases...
Finally I wanna say that ANTTI RAILIO proves what an excellent frontman he is. The guitar work of TAPANI KANGAS (rhytm guitar) and TEEMU KOSKELAs (Solo guitar) is also excellent like ARIS KATAJAMÄKIs bass playing as JUHA MÄENPÄÄ keyboarding and JERE
LUOKKAMÄKIs drumstyle.
All in all a very good album and really a must have one.....
In my personal ranking worth 9.5 out of 10 points. The dedaction of 0.5 points has only to do with the fact, that it took me more time to write down the bandmembers name than my review....damn it...:-))

Was kommt dabei raus, wenn man Szenegrössen wie Gamma Ray, Rhapsody Of Fire, Stratovarius und Falconer in einen grossen Topf schmeisst, noch etwas Helloween dazugibt und kräftig umrührt??? Die passende Antwort geben Celesty mit ihrem neuem Output Mortal mind creation, der mehr als einmal an die erwähnten Bands erinnert.

Dabei verstehen es die Finnen nicht als pures Plagiat durchzugehen, sondern verquicken die hervorstechenden Eigenschaften jener Acts zu einem extrem zündenden Ganzen. Der Bombast und die Gesangslinien von Rhapsody Of Fire und Falconer mit den überragenden Melodien von Stratovarius, versetzt mit einer gesunden Portion Härte.

Vor allem die Double-Bass mäht in bester Gamma Ray-Manier zwischendurch alles nieder. Ein sehr, sehr starkes Album, das von Anfang bis Ende mitreisst. Dürfte Celesty, wenn alles mit rechten Dingen zugeht, nun endlich auch ausserhalb ihrer Heimat und Japan zu grösserem Erfolg verhelfen. Die Produktion lässt ebenfalls keine Wünsche offen. Hier passt einfach alles! Und dass Celesty auch die getragene, gefühlvolle Schien beherrschen, zeigen sie eindrucksvoll mit Among the dreams, ohne auch nur ansatzweise in Richtung Kitsch oder Schmalz abzudriften. Ergo: 9,5 von 10 Punkten.

The land of the thousand lakes is back with their third album ´Mortal Mind Creation´ which will see the daylight on October 30th through Dockyard 1. By this new album the band says pretty much goodbye to the power metal times and says hello to the good old heavy metal. Celesty´s new album differs pretty much from the band´s previous ´Legacy Of Hate´ album but we still get the positive heavy metal with keyboard support, standing in the tradition of fellow countrymen such as Sonata Arctica, with choirs and everything. So now let´s open the chest and see what ´Mortal Mind Creation´ hides inside.

´Lord Of Mortals´ opens the album nicely giving a first taste what´s up and coming on the record. The song´s atmosphere is really heroic and epic giving the album a great kick off. Antti´s harsh voice work on vocals just gives the album the kicks from the beginning to the end leaving no one cold. Drummer Jere Luokkamäki starts showing his furious drumming in ´Unreality´ and at the same point Tapani Kangas and Teemu Koskela start their guitar show. First song I consider as a ´hit´ is the fourth track ´War Creations´ which has really typical epic atmosphere and just amazingly addictive guitar rallys. Antti also shows that he is one of a kind vocalist who has a very wide vocal scale and he can sing both in low and high tunes. The refrain of the song is really catchy and it just gets stuck into my head. ´Empty Room´ just starts where ´War Creations´ ends. The song reminds me about Sonata Arctica which it´s melodic and capturing atmosphere. Antti Railio completes the song with his amazing voice. ´Arrival´ is very epic and heroic power metal ballad which has similar atmosphere like Finnish fantasy metallers Ensiferum has on their songs. ´Last Sacrifice´ ends the album perfectly with it´s insane guitar solos. The refrain on the song is again really addictive and the band has done great job while creating such and addictive ending to the record.

´Mortal Mind Creation´ is a very solid album where you can easily see how much the band has progressed within the past couple of years. The melodies are still quite epic and everything is there to please the fans but they have still managed to add something new and fresh into their sound. Antti has also managed to cut off those typical power metal yelling vocals and replaced them with his harsh voice. Celesty have found their own unique sound and they seem to be happy with it. The album really doesn´t have any weak links and that´s why I warmly recommend this for everyone who is into Sonata Arctica or heavy metal in general to give these Finnish heavy metallers a chance. You won´t regret it!

Aus Finnland kommen (fast) immer gute Bands, Celesty zählen mit Sicherheit dazu, was die Resonanzen ihrer beiden Vorgänger schon bewiesen hat.
Album Numero drei ist purer Melodic Metal, der mit viel Bombast und epischen Momenten bestückt ist, so ist der Opener Lords Of Mortals ein Song, der sowohl durch treibende Power als auch melodische Keypassagen und duper Refrain besticht. Auch bei Unreality treiben die Gitarren wie die Sau, melodisch halten sich die Keys dezent im Hintergrund und Antti Railio deckt mit seinem Organ eine riesige Bandbreite aus cleanem, warmen Gesang, agressiven Vocals und melodischer Stimme ab. Auch Demon Inside ist so ein Track, der durch imense Abwechslung besticht, stark, wie War Creation riffmäßig treibt und aus dem Hintergrund die bombastisch epischen Keyklänge ertönen. Auch bei Empty Room beginnen die Finnen mit Bombast Keys, dann wird der Song etwas ruhiger, es kommen wunderbare Melodiebögen und danach lässt Jere Luokkamäki wunderbar die Doublebass rollen, wonach das Tempo wieder etwas grdrosselt wird. Gefühlvoll und tragend kommt das balladeske Among The Dreams, Back In Time beginnt auch etwas ruhig, wird dann aber zu einer reinen Power Nummer. Mit Arrival haben Celesty ihr schnellstes Stück auf der Platte, wo die rollenden Fußtrommeln immer wieder mit majestätischen Keys zu Beginn unterbrochen werden, aber dann gehts einfach noch vorne. Und zum Schluss noch mal flott, nicht so schnell wie der Vorgänger, aber trotzdem voller Druck und Power fliegt Last Sacrifice aus den Boxen. Mit ihrem glasklaren Sound und den abwechslungreichen Songs wissen Celesty zu gefallen und heben sich wohltuend aus der Masse der Veröffentlichungen hervor.
